Dr Sam Hartridge

Special Counsel

Sam is one of our resident cyber geniuses. He has a passion for privacy and cybersecurity that spans from law into academia, and is a true subject matter expert.

Sam is an experienced cybersecurity and privacy lawyer, who has spent the past 10 years in legal practice specialising on advising on legal issues associated with emerging technologies.

As someone who embraces the technical, he is one the rare professionals who is able to combine deep theoretical knowledge with practical application, having been widely published in academic journals and also acted as breach counsel on a number of large data breaches.

Sam’s expertise spans covers the entirety of the personal information life cycle, and he also has a sub-specialisation in data governance frameworks and implementation of artificial intelligence - including providing advice on ISO and NIST AI risk management approaches.

In his spare time, he holds a position as a Senior Research Fellow and the University of Queensland School of Law, where his research focuses on the legal risks associated with the use of artificial intelligence. He is widely published on privacy issues in a range of academic and professional journals.

Privacy is a unique practice area in that it is both highly technical but also constantly evolving. This means the best practitioners need to be both detailed and dynamic.
